Bes's Story

The lesson that changed our perspective on the human-animal relationship

Bes was not just a dog. He was the teacher and friend who showed us that a relationship with an animal is built on trust, respect, and the joy of working together-not authority.

From the first exercises to therapy sessions, he taught us that what matters is not "performance," but connection. With Bes, we discovered the Dog Assist way: ethics first, science-based approach, and collaboration as a method.

From the Beginning

Curiosity, balance, and desire to collaborate

Born in our family, the son of Dersou-a hyperactive dog always ready for action. Bes was the opposite: calm, balanced, attentive. As a puppy, he did everything for pleasure: he loved playing, learning, and authentic collaboration with humans.

With Bes we learned not "how to train," but how to collaborate. This was the first step toward how we see the human-animal relationship at Dog Assist today.

Partner, Not Tool

Bes became an exceptional therapy dog not because we imposed it on him, but because we discovered together his role. In interventions, he intuitively approached the person who needed him, providing safety and calm just through presence.

No "tricks," no pressure. Just real relationship and cooperation. That gave meaning to our work.

Bes's Lesson

Trust · Respect · Emotional Safety

He showed us that we shouldn’t force a dog to do what it "should." Instead, we need to listen to who he is, what he likes, and what motivates him. That’s where true cooperation begins.

This lesson forms the foundation of Dog Assist today: humans and animals are partners, and real progress happens where there is emotional safety and a genuine desire to be together.

Legacy

Bes worked with us for nearly 8 years, changing lives and bringing hope, trust, and balance to hundreds of children and families. When it was time for retirement, he received what he deserved: a peaceful and loving life.

Even after he left us, his lesson remains alive in all Dog Assist programs: putting the relationship first, respecting each individual, and the joy of growing together-step by step.
